WATER SAFETY TIPS FOR THE LONG WEEKEND
5/19/2017 8:54:06 AM

With the long weekend here many people will be returning to the waterways to enjoy some fun and soak up some sun. Boats of all sizes will be out on the Lakes and waterways and the OPP will be out patrolling to prevent offenses and encourage water safety. Police recommend a few tips to keep in mind when you leave the dock including wearing life jackets, checking and monitoring the marine weather forecast, checking on the condition of the boat, and having a sail plan and letting someone else know the place. The OPP also recommends have a competent operator, having proper safety equipment, keeping in mind fuel levels 1/3 to go, 1/3 to return, and 1/3 in reserve, and leave the beer on the pier as impaired boaters can face the same consequences as impaired drivers.
