The Municipality of Lambton Shores, along with Lambton Public Health, the Huron County Health Unit, and the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation are inviting the public to take part in a beach cleanup in Grand Bend. The Butts Free Beaches Clean-up at the Grand Bend beach takes place Tuesday, July 11th from 4:30 PM until 6 PM.Gloves and bags will be provided for everyone who attends. The beach clean-up is a part of the Municipality of Lambton Shores's 2017 Blue Flag program and will focus on raising awareness about the impact of cigarette butts on beaches and the environment. The Blue Flag program is a world renowned eco-certification for beaches and marinas, and currently, there are 27 beaches and 8 marinas in Canada that have received the designation and Lambton Shores has three of them. The Butt Free Beaches initiative was created by the Lake Huron Centre for Coastal Conservation and it aims to reduce cigarette butts through education and by providing those who smoke an awareness about how to property dispose of butts.
