Life jackets are life-saving...that's according to the Ontario Provincial Police who have seen too many drownings in the Province. OPP Media Relations Officer Jamie Stanley says water safety starts with being prepared and understanding risks. Stanley says for those with children there are a few tips to keep in mind before hitting the water.

Stanley adds that personal floatation devices are the number one thing the OPP Marine Patrol looks for from boaters, and second is making sure anyone operating a vessel is not impaired. He says that while some people don't think PFD's are cool, they are life-saving, and children tend to imitate adults.
