Deer hunting season is officially underway and Police are offering tips for hunters to ensure that they are as safe as possible. OPP Media Relations Officer Jamie Stanley says before you go out hunting tell someone where you are going, and when you are expected to return in case something happens, get permission from landowners in advance, dress for the weather conditions, and carry a survival kit.
He says there are some very important aspects to remember when hunting.
Stanley says other safety tips include being careful when in tree stands, by using a safety harness, and no hunting after dusk. He says that all hunters must have valid tags as well as proper licenses for weapons. Anyone with any concerns about illegal or unsafe hunting activities is asked to call the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry or police.
