Two fires along with blitery winter conditions kept the South Huron Fire Department busy on January 3. The department was first called out to a large barn fire on Alexander Road, and it took the Exeter, Huron Park, and Dashwood departments along with tankers from Zurich, Hensall and Mitchell to contain and stop the blaze. The structure was engulfed by flames by the time crews responded, and the estimated value of the damages is $1.5 million. While crews were battling the large barn fire, they got a call about a chimney fire on Kirkton Road. A mixture of resources were sent to battled the fire including the Huron Park pumper and rescue trucks and the Dashwood rescue truck. Crews quickly contained the fire, but it is estimated that $20 thousand in damage resulted from the fire.
