It is estimated that 1200 people in Huron County are living with dementia. January is Alzheimer's Awareness month, and Executive Director of the Alzheimers Society of Huron County, Cathy Ritsema says the month is important as it helps increase the awareness and knowledge for Alzheimer's. Ritsema says still to this day many people believe they will be judged due to a dementia diagnosis.

Because of the stigmas associated with Alzheimer's, Ritsema says this years theme is "I Live With Dementia Let Me Help You Understand", which allows people living with dementia to tell their stories.
