2/9/2018 10:25:32 AM

If you have been a victim of a Western Union scam there is some potentially good news. Following an investigation by the US Postal Inspection Service, the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice the company has admitted to aiding and abetting wire frauds. Because of this, they have agreed to pay $586 million in compensation to victims including eligible Canadians. The scams covered include the emergency or grandparents scams where victims sent money through the company to someone pretending to be a relative or friend in need of cash. Refunds must be submitted by February 12th. Visit the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centres website at antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/index-eng.htm to find out if you are eligible to submit a claim.
