The Dashwood Fire Department was called into action last Friday, but not for a fire. A crew responded to an area southeast of Dashwood, after getting a call from a teacher in Indiana. The teacher's grade four class had done a science experiment with a weather balloon and were expecting it to end up in Michigan, but due to the high winds it crossed the border and landed locally. District Fire Cheif for the Dashwood Fire Department Jeremy Becker says it was a neat call to get.

Becker says that he was provided with a satellite map and he recognized the property where the balloon had landed and crews headed to the scene and located the balloon. Good news for the class as they will be getting their balloon back shortly as it has been packed up and will be sent to the school this weekend.
