DOMESTIC VIOLENCE STILL AN ISSUE

Nearly 1000 calls were made to the Huron Women's Shelter crisis line last year and that's among the over 100 visits to the local shelter in Goderich. Interm Executive Director of the Huron Women's Shelter, Susan Dill says, unfortunately, domestic violence happens everywhere and Huron County is not exempt. Local domestic violence was brought into the spotlight recently following the death of a Vanastra woman, as the accused was her partner. Dill says it is important to know the signs of domestic violence, and they aren't just physical.

She says that the best way to combat domestic violence is for everyone in the community to be aware of warning signs and when they recognize it to know how to help. The website for the Huron Women's Shelter is huronwomensshelter.ca, while the crisis line number is 1-800-265-5506
