10 FRAUDS REPORTED IN PERTH
7/5/2018 8:50:29 AM

Police in Perth County are once again reminding people of the Canada Revenue Agency scam among others that are active in our community. Perth OPP investigated at least 10 occurrences involving victims sending electronic transfers of Bitcoins, sending gift card codes, providing personal banking information and allowing access to their personal computers. Police warn that scammers will use multiple methods to obtain information including spoofing which is mimicking a legitimate phone number using automated technology. Some victims have been able to cancel purchases made using their accounts or credit cards, but police say that gift cards and associated pin numbers make the cards instantly useless. Warning signs include: urgency, fear, and a request for money transfer, and payment in gift cards is a sure sign you are dealing with a scammer.
