Lambton-Kent-Middlesex Green Party nominee Anthony Li is defending his candidacy from not only the other parties, but from his own as well. The local party Executive Committee says five of its seven members do not support the medical student as their candidate.
Board Chairman Stan Grizzle says their issues with Li was him allegedly failing to inform the party prior to his nomination at the end of April his intentions to continue his education at Queen’s University in Kingston.
Grizzle says it’s just not appropriate that Li who is a student in Kingston lives 500 kms away from a riding he’s running to represent. Li responded to these claims, saying he is in fact very present in Lambton-Kent-Middlesex.
Li says the entire executive committee gave him their support as candidate when he was nominated, and told myFM he feels the “entire issue,” is that he got into medical school, which he said was a “complete surprise.”
Grizzle says they approached the Green Party of Canada and their response was they were sticking with Li as the candidate.
Li said they’re committed and continue to be committed to the election and he has no intention to resign.
