The new weather radar station is officially open in Exeter.
Environment Canada meteorologist Gerald Chang says there are a few things the new station can do that the previous one couldn’t offer.
The radar replacement was federally funded and the station in Exeter is one of 31 across Canada. 26 of them are in the process of being replaced for a total of about $107 million.
Chang says they’ve narrowed maintenance down to the Exeter radar to twice per year when the old one required six. Data also arrives every six minutes rather than 10, which gives more information faster to allow for earlier weather warnings and statements.
