There’s now research to reinforce the fact that Highway 401 through Southwestern Ontario is a significant location for human trafficking.
A study by the Centre to End Human Trafficking found that corridors like the 401 are often used as a way for traffickers to maximize profit, avoid the police, and isolate victims.
This report came out hours before the Ontario’s Progressive Conservative government brought forward anti-human trafficking legislation, intended to help police combat the crime.
The study found London, Windsor, Chatham-Kent and Sarnia to be the top commercial sex markets in Southwestern Ontario.
