The Earth has made another full rotation around the sun and myFM is taking a look back on 2022.
We spoke with Lisa Walsh, Director of Education with the Avon Maitland District School Board. She says 2022 was a great year and the school board accomplished a lot.
Some of those accomplishments include creative learning approaches, their newly launched ‘Field to Forest’ outdoor learning program, and the amount of work they have done in the equity area including updating administrative procedures and developing learning initiatives.
Other accomplishments include hiring more councilors for mental health and the well-being of students and staff. Improving cyber bullying software and making new software and equipment to put a stop to cyber bullying.
AMDSB has also welcomed 7 out of 9 new Trustees. They will be meeting with school councils about the needs in the district and what people are excited for; as well as what the district needs to grow.
Walsh also tells myFM that the school board is looking to improve learning more in 2023.
When there are great learning opportunities for staff, it translates into their classrooms.
The Board is also working on an anonymous way to report hate based and racial based incidents that students can use, much like their existing anonymous bulling button online.
2023 will bring new mental health engagement strategies with an increase in resources.
