We all know that it’s been an unusually dry spring, but depleting water levels have local experts concerned.
The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority’s Water Response Team has officially declared a Level 1 Low Water Advisory for the entire ABCA watershed.
Rainfall between April and June was only 50-70% of the normal average. Tim Cumming is a Communications Specialist with the ABCA – he says that advisories like these are a tool for the public,
The advisory recommends a 10% voluntary reduction in water usage by businesses and individuals, to help protect the water supply.
Cumming says that there are little things that everyone can do to help make this reduction,
The lack of significant rainfall has impacted streamflow, and unless there is above-normal rainfall in July, streamflow’s are expected to continue declining throughout the month. Although there has been some precipitation in recent weeks, Cumming says that it hasn’t been enough,
Water conservation is crucial to safeguard the water supply. The Water Response Team monitors the situation closely and encourages everyone to visit the ABCA website for more info and water-saving tips – abca.ca/news/lowwater/
