The Municipality of Bluewater has announced the beginning of construction for the new water tower in Hensall.
With an estimated cost of $6.5 million, the project will be partially funded through the ICIP Green Stream. Approximately $3.3 million will be provided by the Municipality, with funding sourced from a combination of development charge funds, reserve funds, and debenture contributions from residents.
The finished tower will be at the intersection of Soldan and Mill Streets and is designed to have an impressive capacity of approximately 1,400 cubic meters.
Although the new water tower will not occupy the same location, it will serve the same area as the existing tower currently located at Richmond Street N and Highway Four.
As part of the project, the Municipality will proceed with the abandonment and demolition of the existing water tower upon the completion of the new tower.
During the construction phase, there will be no impact on residential water services. However, the Municipality acknowledged that there might be potential service interruptions or road closures at a later date when the new tower is ready to be integrated into the Municipal water system.
The much-anticipated project is expected to be completed by August 30, 2024.
