The provincial government is investing $3.6 million in a bid to get more people into the skilled trades.
Minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development Monte McNaughton made the announcement Tuesday.
McNaughton says they still have lots of work to fill the vacant trade jobs, and a collaboration like this with the Provincial Building and Construction Trades Council of Ontario will help do that.
The money’s being divided up into three programs. The first offers 700 tradeswomen gain training and networking opportunities needed to begin a career in their chosen field.
The second offers 1, 500 people online training and resources to train and find apprenticeship opportunities. The third involves offering a hands-on program offered to 60 grade 12 students in London and Ottawa to explore the trades.
