Mackenzie Miller is a local child that has been diagnosed with lissencephaly
Mark your calendars for September 8th from 5-7 as the town prepares to host the 2nd annual Lissencephaly Awareness Day.
Local mother and advocate Ashley Miller is at the heart of this event. Her personal journey with lissencephaly began when her daughter Mackenzie was born in 2020 and subsequently diagnosed in July 2021.
Lissencephaly poses significant challenges, ranging from seizures to difficulties in eating and swallowing. The condition also affects mobility and communication.
The road to diagnosis was a challenging one, and Ashley discovered solace by joining a USA-based group focused on the disease.
Ashley’s determination to create awareness and secure support led her to initiate last year’s successful community event,

This year, Ashley’s efforts have expanded. The event will feature engaging activities like a bouncy castle, games, face painting, and pizza.
Funds raised will aid Ashley’s families in purchasing needed physical therapy equipment for Mackenzie,
Ashley’s hope is that Lissencephaly Awareness Day will serve as a platform for those affected by the disease to unite, share experiences, and raise awareness. The family has been well supported by the community thus far, and looks forward to that continued support in the future,
