In case you missed our community spotlight earlier this week, today marks the start of the third annual Welcome Week, a campaign aimed at fostering a warm embrace for newcomers in the county.
If you ask Local Immigration Partnership Manager Mark Nonkes, the success of previous Welcome Weeks has been impressive,
This year’s Welcome Week runs from September 8th to 17th, and includes welcome nights at local libraries in Seaforth, Goderich and Brussels, where new neighbours can form connections in the community. In Clinton, there’s a welcome booth at the Harvest Festival to greet newcomers with open arms. And an African drumming workshop at the Exeter Farmers Market.
Over the past five years, the social demographics of the area have changed a lot,
Welcome Week is a way of saying, “Hey, we want you here,” to these new residents, especially immigrants who may be seeking community in their new home,
A noteworthy highlight of this year’s Welcome Week is the partnership that’s bringing drummer Babarinde Williams to the Exeter community on Friday, September 15th from 5:00-6:30.
Williams will also be presenting at two local schools, enhancing the educational aspect of the event.
It’s a time for the community to come together, embrace diversity, and showcase their welcoming spirit. Welcome Week 2023 is not to be missed!
