Exeter’s annual Terry Fox run on Sunday (September 17) was a standout success – the community came together to raise over $30,000 for cancer research.
When you look at the statistics, the success of well funded cancer research is obvious – with cancer mortality down 37% in men since 1988, and 22% in women.
Ann and Bart Devries have helmed the Exeter run for decades, they say that this year’s turnout was awesome!
They say that every year is kind of like a family reunion – they look forward to it every single year.
Next year, the pair hope to pass the torch! They’re looking for a new passionate individual (or individuals) to spearhead the run in Exeter for the coming years, but no matter who’s helming the ship, the pair will always make sure to come out and support their community.
The success of the run would not have been possible without one local family – they go by the name “Team Awesome”, and they were responsible for more than half of the funds raised here in Exeter.
Friends and family of the Hundey’s came out to support Beth, who has been fighting with cancer for 7 years.
The Devries’ say that the turnout and support from the community is indicative of South Huron’s generosity – they look forward to seeing what everyone does next year, and look forward to continuing the journey with the community.
