Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) has taken a tech-savvy approach to encourage donations.
The installation of QR code signs at conservation areas and trails allows trail users to make contributions on the go.
Users can use their phone’s camera function to scan the QR code on the signs, leading them to the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation donation page. From there, donors can contribute to specific programs or projects of their choice.
While the QR code signs offer a convenient option, they also take donations over the phone, in-person, by mail, online, and via e-Transfer.
Dave Frayne, Chair of Ausable Bayfield Conservation Foundation (ABCF), emphasized the significance of public support in maintaining habitats and recreational areas. “We rely on local donations for trails, conservation areas, and other local conservation programs,” he stated. The QR codes, resembling store barcodes, provide an easy link for smartphone users to access the ABCF donation page.
