The South Huron Fire Department was on the scene at a house fire on Victoria Street W in Exeter this morning – reportedly the second structure fire they responded to this week.
They arrived on scene this morning around 8am, three residents that were home at the time in the duplex all escaped, with one being transported to the hospital as a precaution to be treated for smoke inhalation.
The fire was likely either an electrical or appliance fire – Fire Chief Jeremy Becker says that it “could have easily gone another way”.
The first fire they responded to on Anne Street on Saturday was due to an appliance that was left plugged in, on the counter, that hadn’t been used in a week. The homeowner was lucky to arrive home in time to get their pet out. As a preventative measure, Chief Becker recommends unplugging small appliances when you’re not using them.
This Christmas, your gift to your family as well as the South Huron Fire Department should be working smoke detectors in your home.
