South Huron Fire Department saw a signifigant leap in demand, with 2023 experiencing a substantial jump to 256 responses compared to 125 in 2022.
That’s according to a report presented by Fire Chief Jeremy Becker, presented to South Huron Council on Monday (January 15).
Councillor Neeb raised concerns about the significant increase in responses and sought clarification on whether it was across all call types or specific areas.
Chief Becker acknowledged the trend and attributed it to several factors.
Councillor Neeb also inquired about response times, expressing concerns about maintaining adequate levels with the surge in calls.
Chief Becker assured the council that the department was meeting standards, despite the increased demand.
With possible upgrades to the Dashwood Fire Station in the near future, the South Huron Fire Department aims to continue to protect the community in the years to come, despite the increased demand.
