A local visionary has a plan to make food more accessible to the local community, by having a community garden behind the Bayfield arena, in the agricultural park.
Janneke Vorsteveld, the visionary behind the project says there are a few reasons why she would like to see a community garden in Bayfield.
Though a decision has not been reached as to how to fund the project, Bluewater council has taken the idea in with open arms – saying that they saw the passion, but also that community gardens have been growing in popularity.
Vorsteveld has been thinking about a community garden in Bayfield for years, as it has the physical land to do it!
As soon as she looked into it, she looked at other community gardens, and she’s never seen so many grants available – this project is screaming to happen!
A survey went out, asking about peoples opinion of the garden, an according to th survey feedback, there were 72 responses, with 92% support, 75% wanted to be involved.
If you would like to get involved, Vorsteveld says there is a simple way to do it.
This summer will be the infancy of the project, and they’re hoping to lay a strong foundation. If you would like to get involved and help out, email seedsrooted@gmail.com
