The volunteers at Jessica’s House in Exeter are the heartbeat of the hospice – in 2023 alone, they dedicated a staggering 4086 volunteer hours.
Grace Winbow, Volunteer Coordinator, says that around 70 volunteers contribute in both direct and indirect capacities, and keep the hospice the warm and welcoming facility that it is.
Direct volunteers, stationed in residence, undertake tasks ranging from cooking to companionship with residents. Meanwhile, an equally essential indirect team focuses on gardening, general maintenance, bereavement services, administration, and organizing events.
Residents and community members alike benefit from their support, with families expressing profound gratitude for the touching and meaningful connections formed.
The hospice is always actively seeking new volunteers, welcoming individuals with maintenance skills to join their ranks.
Whether you’re a skilled DIY enthusiast, a handy person, or a tradesperson, Jessica’s House has a place for you. They onboard volunteers throughout the year, encouraging interested individuals to reach out at any time.
