Many are taking the warmer weather as an opportunity to enjoy the trails and parks that make our area such a lovely natural space – and many are bringing their four legged friends along for a nice walk.
Tim Cumming, Communications Specialist at the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority, says that there’s some basic rules you should keep in mind.

Cumming says that he regularly enjoys trails with his dog, Maddie
The importance of leash laws and responsible pet waste management in conservation areas was highlighted. Cumming emphasized the need to educate the public about keeping dogs on leashes while on trails to ensure the safety of pets, wildlife, and fellow trail users.
Regarding the availability of dog parks, Cumming acknowledged the community’s desire for more designated areas but emphasized that multi-use trails and conservation areas are not substitutes for dog parks. He encouraged pet owners to use designated dog parks where available and to respect leash laws in other outdoor spaces.
The conversation also touched on the importance of cleaning up after pets to prevent health hazards and water pollution.
Cumming stressed that cleaning up after yourself is common courtesy, so make sure you take some bags with you!
