In response to the rare total solar eclipse set to occur on Monday, April 8, both Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) and Huron Perth Catholic District School Board (HPCDSB) have decided to reschedule their April PA Days. Originally slated for Friday, April 19, the PA Day will now take place on April 8.
While Huron and Perth are not within the Path of Totality, residents in the region will experience a partial eclipse beginning around 2 pm and concluding after 4:30 pm – two primary concerns highlighted by Huron Perth Public Health include the risk of individual damage to vision and the potential for mass gatherings, including distracted motorists.
Dr. Lisa Walsh, Director of Education at AMDSB said “Due to the timing of this event and the potential risk to the safety of students and staff, we believe rescheduling the PA Day from April 19 to April 8 will significantly mitigate this risk. This decision is made out of an abundance of caution, following consultations with our partners at Huron Perth Public Health.”
