An annual report from CAO Meighan Wark to county council last week (Wednesday, April 3) gave the community lots to celebrate – with such impressive statistics as 92% of all businesses in Huron County are locally owned an operated, and that the area saw 1.2 million visitors in 2023.
The report saw high praises from Warden Glen McNeil, who congratulated county staff on their tireless efforts over the past year to make many programs and initiatives a success.
The report had many councillors questioning how they could make that information more accessible to the public, with Mayor of Huron East Bernie MacLellan saying that making it available online, wasn’t enough.
Mayor of Bluewater Paul Klopp questioned the necessity of using tax dollars to promote county successes.
He said that he believed the money needed to advertise the report could be better used elsewhere, and would be publically available online.
Mayor of Goderich Trevor Bazinet said that while the information would be available on the website, it was their responsibility to make the report more accessible to the public.
He supported MacLellan’s sentiment that the report should be promoted.
A motion was made to have staff bring back a report about how to best promote the findings of the report.
