In a collaborative effort to combat childhood hunger, the Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre and the Huron-Perth Children’s Aid Society have joined forces to supply school snacks to more than 7000 students across Huron and Perth Counties.
With statistics from Breakfast Club Canada revealing that 1 in 5 children attend school without having had breakfast or lunch, the significance of this partnership cannot be overstated.
Mary Ellen Zielman, Executive Director of the Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre, emphasized the silent struggle of hunger among children, stating, “Hunger is not something that is shared but experienced silently. Snacks at school are so vital in helping children be available for learning.”
Kristian Wilson, Executive Director of the Huron-Perth Children’s Aid Society, echoed Zielman’s sentiments, expressing pride in their collaboration with the Food Bank Distribution Centre. Wilson emphasized the importance of addressing food insecurity, noting its potential to compound stress for families and hinder children’s ability to focus on learning.
Both organizations expressed gratitude for the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of children and families within the Huron and Perth communities.
