After a hiatus, the art exhibition Paint Ontario is returning to its roots in Grand Bend for its 27th year.
Paint Ontario, initially conceived by local artist Barry Richmond to showcase artists in the community, has evolved into a province-wide showcase of representational art.
Featuring over 225 paintings and sculptures from artists across Ontario, Paint Ontario offers a diverse range of artistic styles and price points. From realism to colorful impressionistic works, the exhibition aims to represent the richness and diversity of Ontario’s artistic talent.
That was Teresa Phillips, the curator of Paint Ontario – she says that this year they’re excited to be setting up at the Grand Bend Legion for the first time.
Phillips says that one of the event’s core objectives is to make art accessible to all, especially to the younger generation. Children aged 12 and under can attend for free, with special activities planned to ignite their creativity and passion for art. Schools are also invited to participate, offering students hands-on experiences and exposure to various art forms.
Paint Ontario is not only a marvel for visitors, but a massive accomplishment for the 120 artists featured.
Phillips emphasized the community-driven nature of Paint Ontario, highlighting the collaborative efforts of volunteers, sponsors, and local organizations. The event’s success is a testament to the dedication of countless individuals who have contributed their time and resources.
To ensure accessibility, Paint Ontario offers affordable ticket options, including a $15 pass for the entire duration of the exhibition. You can purchase tickets online in advance of the event for $8, or $10 at the door – head to ticketwindow.ca
Additionally, special events and workshops are scheduled throughout the month-long event, culminating in a cultural weekend celebration on May long weekend, featuring interactive art displays, demonstrations, and storytelling sessions.
Don’t miss out on this unforgettable experience from May 3rd to the 20th at the Grand Bend Legion Hall – their Grand Opening is Friday at 4pm.
