The Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre is The Usborne and Hibbert Community Partner for the month of May.
The organization supplies not only individual users but also other food banks and aid agencies within the county and neighboring regions – this partnership allows for the consolidation of resources.
That was Executive Director Mary Ellen Zielman – she says that centralizing their operations not only boosts capacity but also facilitates cost-saving measures, and allows them to store large quantities of dry foods and other goods that most food banks would not have the space to store.
Critical to their success is the support from Premium Transportation, which provides warehouse space essential for storage.
Beyond food provision, The Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre engages in various community initiatives, including school snack programs and distributing sanitary products. Zielman highlighted the importance of collaboration with local agencies to address diverse needs effectively.
Moreover, the organization leverages partnerships with local producers and farmers, tapping into the region’s agricultural abundance.
Zielman acknowledged the community’s generosity, attributing much of their success to the support received.
However, Zielman emphasized the ongoing need for financial support to cover operational expenses.
As the organization continues its mission to alleviate food insecurity, Zielman expressed gratitude for the community’s unwavering support and urged ongoing commitment to address this pressing issue.
