Building on the success of last year’s festival, which drew between 2 and 3 thousand visitors, Dawn Allen, Vice President of Huron County Pride, says that they’re excited for their second annual Huron County Pride Festival, set to take place on Saturday, June 8th, at Courthouse Square. This year’s event promises even more excitement and inclusivity.
One of the highlights of this year’s festival is its theme: “Getting Back to Our Rural Roots.” Allen expressed a desire to connect more with farmers and agricultural sector members, showcasing the diversity and unity within the rural LGBTQ+ community.
A notable feature of the festival is the panel discussion, which was well-received last year. This year, queer farmers and agriculture professionals will share their stories and engage with the audience, fostering meaningful conversations.
Allen says to be able to run the festival again this year is amazing.
Attendees can also look forward to free line dancing, live music by a band, and attractions like fire trucks for the kids, ensuring there’s something for everyone in the family to enjoy.
Reflecting on last year’s inaugural festival, Allen expressed pride in how far they’ve come. With increased planning time and strong community support, this year’s event promises to be even more vibrant and engaging. The addition of new programming throughout the week, including queer trivia, a free concert, and a burlesque country show, demonstrates the festival’s growth and commitment to providing diverse experiences.
Allen emphasized that the festival is not just about fun and entertainment but also about creating a safe and welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community to express themselves creatively. As they continue this tradition into the future, the goal is to keep improving and expanding their impact, both within the community and beyond.
The Huron County Pride Festival is open to all and free to attend. Those interested in volunteering or becoming members can find more information at the festival or by contacting Huron County Pride directly. With a lineup of exciting events and a spirit of inclusivity, the festival aims to celebrate diversity and promote acceptance for everyone.
For those looking to join the celebration, mark your calendars for Saturday, June 8th, and head down to Courthouse Square from 9 am to 5 pm for a day filled with music, entertainment, and community spirit.
