Bluewater residents are going to have to quiet down, or risk a bylaw infraction following decisions at council’s meeting on June 17th.
The legislation (By-law 57-2024) is designed to control noise in residential, rural, and business areas by setting specific prohibited times for noise and providing a structured approach to managing noise complaints and issuing tickets.
In business areas, noise must be controlled after midnight, while in residential areas, noise disturbances are restricted after 8 p.m.
Councilor Bill Whetstone suggested reconsidering the 8 p.m. restriction in residential areas, proposing a later time.
It was agreed to monitor complaints and revisit the issue if necessary.
Councilor Hessel stressed the need for a complaint-driven approach to ensure fairness and avoid unnecessary enforcement actions.
Despite some concerns, the council decided to pass the by-law – Whetstone emphasized the importance of a balanced approach.
Mayor Klopp and other council members acknowledged the need for flexibility and agreed to revisit the by-law if complaints increase or if the current restrictions prove to be problematic.
