The Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) held a meeting on September 10, 2024, to provide updates on the new school year.
Several programs were held over the summer. Over 160 students in grades 1 to 3 attended Camp I AM to improve their reading, writing, and math skills. Secondary students took part in eight half-days of Indigenous land-based learning, including outdoor activities, drumming, beading, and moccasin making, guided by Indigenous Knowledge Carriers and instructors.
A total of 536 secondary school credits were earned through summer school, with a 98% success rate. Staff also took part in various professional development sessions, such as mental health training and workshops on suicide prevention. Over 60 construction projects were completed, including bathroom upgrades and new roofs.
