The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has released its 2023 Annual Report. The report aligns with the OPP’s 2023-2025 Strategic Plan, focusing on People, Work, and Communities to build safer Ontario communities.
In 2023, the OPP saw significant activity: over 500 new officers joined, and more than 2 million service calls were handled. Traffic safety efforts included increased stops and addressing impaired driving, with over 11,000 charges issued. The OPP also handled 160 major crime investigations and removed $15.4 million in illicit drugs from Ontario communities.
The report highlights the need for bail reform, as recent legislative changes, like Bill C-48, aim to address repeat violent offenses. For a complete look at the OPP’s 2023 activities, visit their website at opp.ca.
