This year, 45 people have died in crashes involving impaired drivers on roads patrolled by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). With the holiday season here, the OPP is urging drivers and citizens to help prevent more lives from being lost due to impaired driving.
The OPP is running its Festive RIDE program across Ontario, stopping drivers to check for alcohol or drug impairment. Impaired drivers experience the thorough investigation process firsthand, as officers use advanced tools and their expertise to detect impairment.
The OPP also relies on the public as key partners in road safety, especially during the holidays. This year, citizens made over 16,000 calls to report suspected impaired drivers, and the OPP is encouraging everyone to keep making these life-saving reports. They also ask people to step in and stop anyone who has consumed alcohol or drugs from getting behind the wheel. The fewer impaired drivers on the road, the safer it will be for everyone.
