A Blood Donation event is happening today at the Knights of Columbus Hall from 1-7pm in Goderich, giving people the chance to make a real difference in the lives of others. It’s important for our community to help Canadian Blood Services reach their goal of getting more people to donate.
Blood and blood products are crucial for daily medical care, including major surgeries, medical procedures, cancer treatments, and managing various diseases and disorders. By donating blood, you help many Canadians stay healthy and receive the care they need, according to Community Development Manager at Canadian Blood Services, Maureen Macfarlane.
Blood has different parts, each with a specific role. When you donate, you give whole blood, which is made up of four components. These components can be used individually or together to treat various conditions.
According to Macfarlane, the demand for blood donations is higher than ever, but fewer eligible people are donating. She notes that the number of donors is decreasing, even as the need for donations continues to grow.
Macfarlane says donating blood can be a bit scary, but offered some reassurance for those thinking about it.
You can book your appointment to give the gift of life saving blood at blood.ca, through the GiveBlood App or call 1-888-236-6283 to set up a time. If you can’t make it out today, Goderich will play host to another blood donation event on January 23rd.
