A polar vortex has arrived in Southern Ontario, causing very cold temperatures.
Because of this, OPP West Region is warning drivers to prepare for extreme cold and heavy snow in the northern parts of the region. Being stuck in a ditch or trapped in traffic during a snowstorm can be very dangerous when it is so cold.
Dress warmly, even when you are in your car, in case you get stranded. Keep your phone charged. Make sure your gas tank is full before you leave. If you get stuck in traffic, you’ll need the car heater to stay warm. Carry a winter survival kit in your car. This should include a shovel, blanket, warm clothes, food, water, jumper cables, flashlight, high-energy food, matches, and a candle. Plan your trip in advance.

For non-emergency help, call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. In an emergency, dial 911.
