President Donald Trump announced that he will impose 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports, including from Canada and Mexico, starting today.
Speaking aboard Air Force One en route to New Orleans for the Super Bowl, Trump highlighted his earlier 2018 tariffs of 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum, citing national security concerns. Initially exempted, Canada faced these tariffs in May 2018, prompting retaliatory counter-tariffs.
A deal to resolve the trade dispute was reached in May 2019, preventing surges in steel and aluminum supplies from both countries.
