The temporary tax break on essential items like groceries and children’s clothes that went into effect on December 14, 2024, is set to come to an end this Saturday.
While Canadians may have got used to the welcomed relief at the register, the removal of GST and HST on 100% of groceries, restaurant meals, takeout and fast food, beer and wine, and children’s essentials, will be no more after February 15th.
This may be the perfect chance for families to stock up on items they know they will need down the road, including diapers, children’s clothing and footwear.
It’s also a great chance to support a local restaurant or business, especially with Valentine’s Day and Family Day coming up.
The tax relief and rebates aimed to address affordability concerns across the country, costing roughly $1.6 billion overall.
