As March marks National Fraud Prevention Month, four of Ontario’s largest utilities are joining forces to warn customers about scams targeting homes and businesses across the province.
Alectra Utilities, Elexicon Energy, Hydro One, and Hydro Ottawa are spotlighting common tactics used by fraudsters — like posing as utility employees, making threatening calls or emails, and demanding immediate payment through gift cards or cryptocurrency.
They urge customers to double-check bills, avoid suspicious links, and never share personal information.
As National Fraud Prevention Month helps raise awareness and provide useful tips to recognize, reject, and report fraud, Ontario’s utilities want to help safeguard the privacy and security of all residential and business customers.
If you suspect fraud, contact your utility directly or report threats to police.
