
On February 19th, a suspicious fire broke out in Goderich, prompting an investigation by the Huron County OPP and the Huron County OPP Major Crime Unit.
Around 9:30 p.m., the OPP and Goderich Fire Department responded to a fire involving a recycling bin outside a building on Hamilton Street. The investigation revealed that the fire was intentionally set, causing damage to the building’s exterior and wiring. The exact cost of the damage has not yet been determined, but no injuries were reported. The building contains several apartments.
Following the investigation, a 19-year-old of Goderich was arrested on March 16th. The 19 year old faces charges of arson with disregard for human life, mischief causing damage over $5,000, and mischief endangering life. After being processed, they were held for a bail hearing and later released. A court appearance is scheduled for April 28, 2025, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich.
