On Friday, March 21st, leaders from the Municipality of Lambton Shores met with Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Steve Pinsonneault and Huron-Bruce MPP and Ontario’s Minister of Rural Affairs, Lisa Thompson, to discuss the need for more funding to support rural public transit.
During the meeting, Lambton Shores Mayor Doug Cook talked about the importance of Huron Shores Area Transit (HSAT) in connecting communities in the region. He also noted that municipalities like Lambton Shores, Bluewater, South Huron, and Kettle & Stony Point First Nation have committed funding to help keep the transit system running.
Officials stressed that while local support is strong, the long-term success of HSAT relies on continued funding from the province. They explained that a stable and sustainable financial plan for the transit system is needed.
Mayor Cook said they are committed to making sure rural residents have access to reliable public transportation. He thanked Minister Thompson and MPP Pinsonneault for the opportunity to discuss the issue and hopes to keep working with them to secure the necessary support.
The Municipality of Lambton Shores and its partners plan to keep advocating for rural transportation and working with the province to strengthen connections between communities. They will continue to share updates about HSAT and any new funding information on their website, lambtonshores.ca, and the HSAT website, HuronShoresAreaTransit.ca.
