A rainfall warning is in effect for Exeter, Goderich, Bluewater, and southern Huron County, with heavy rain expected throughout the day. The ground is already saturated, making it difficult for more water to be absorbed.
Rain is expected to continue from this morning until early Thursday, with total amounts between 30 and 50 mm. Some areas could see even higher amounts if thunderstorms repeatedly hit the same locations. The heaviest rain will start in southwestern Ontario before moving toward the Golden Horseshoe this afternoon. Rain will gradually end from west to east overnight into early Thursday morning.
Local authorities warn that flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Heavy rain may lead to flash floods and water pooling on roads, creating dangerous driving conditions. For updates on flooding, residents are advised to check with their local Conservation Authority or the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. More details are available at Ontario.ca/floods.
There is also a Freezing Rain Warning in effect with a brief period of freezing rain expected this morning. Minor ice accretion is possible on some surfaces possible. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy, slippery and hazardous.
