Huron OPP officers will be out in full force this Easter long weekend as part of a province-wide seatbelt and traffic safety campaign running from April 18th to April 21st.
Last year, only three crashes were reported in Huron County over the Easter weekend, all with property damage and no injuries. However, officers still laid 26 charges for seatbelt violations, along with 163 speeding tickets and five for stunt or racing. In total, 235 charges were issued, including two for impaired driving.
The OPP says traffic safety is a year-round priority, but long weekends mean more cars on the road and a higher chance of dangerous driving. Officers will be focusing on seatbelt use, impaired driving, and speeding.
“Driving is a privilege,” said Huron OPP Community Engagement Officer Craig Soldan. “Everyone should do their part to keep our roads safe by buckling up, driving sober, and making smart choices behind the wheel.”
