Goderich council has voted in favour of a new wooden boardwalk.
They held a special meeting this week to discuss the topic as time is of the essence to begin work on the new walkway, and a decision needed to be made prior to their full council meeting next week.
Mayor, John Grace, says the decision to keep it wooden instead of changing to concrete comes from the desire to keep the natural beauty of the beach intact, and to address some other issues.
He adds the funding the project is coming from municipal reserves, and taxpayers won’t be affected. Grace says they would like to start construction as soon as possible, and finish after the next tourist season.
The boardwalk is closed as of now after high winds and big waves recently destroyed a section of it.
