The province announced on Wednesday that they are opening up COVID-19 booster shots for people over the age of 70 and those who received two doses of the AstraZenca vaccine or one-dose of the Janssen vaccine starting this weekend. Also included in those able to get the booster shot will be any adults who are a part of First Nations, Inuit and Metis communities, and front-line healthcare workers who have short intervals between their first two doses.
Lambton Public Health and Huron Perth Public Health will be expanding eligibility for third doses. All new eligible groups can now receive a third dose of the vaccine if they are 6-months past their second dose.
LPH wants to ensure everyone is checking the date they received their second dose before booking an appointment. Many Lambton residents that are 70+ received their second dose in June which would make them eligible for the third dose in December.
Provincial health officials say that people can receive either Pfizer or Moderna as a booster shot, no matter what mRNA vaccine they got the first time. The booster eligibility will expand over time based on age and risk, and with an interval of six to eight months from their second dose, but that is not expect before January 2022.
