The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation is donating close to $120 thousand to United Ways across Ontario.
Locally this means the United Way of Perth Huron will receive over $1224, while the United Way in Sarnia Lambton will be getting just over $1,217.
The United Way helps support vulnerable populations with access to charities and community assistance.
Here are a few examples of the kind of support a few thousand dollars can provide:
$1,000 provides nutritional meals for 100 seniors.
$1,200 supports 10 people with intellectual disabilities to take part in a new activity of their choice for the first time.
$2,000 can enroll four single moms in a career training course, making it easier for them to find a job.
$2,000 provides 30 youth with the opportunity to cook an affordable and nutritious meal once a week for 40 weeks.
$2,000 provides 10 children with one week of summer day camp or provides one week of wages for five young people participating in an employment program.
$2,400 will help 10 individuals get the supports they need to find housing and stay housed for three months.
