The Municipality of Bluewater is working on expanding the Bayfield Wastewater Treatment Facility with an estimated completion date of late 2025 or early 2026.
At the existing facility, there is a lagoon that provides waste treatment for the Village of Bayfield, however, Manager of Public Works Dave Kester says that an expansion is necessary,
The project is estimated to cost $11.25 million and alongside the expansion it includes improvements to the existing facility to bring it up to current environmental standards, and maintenance to ensure that it continues to be in service in the coming years.
The project has two components to help make sure that the facility continues to serve the community for years to come, says Kester,
The existing facility was constructed in 2001, and population projections are usually anticipated for about 2 decades.
At this point in time, they are working on design for the expansion, and it has been submitted to the Ministry for the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) for their review and approval. The expansion is anticipated to serve the needs of the community for about ten years, with options for modular expansion in the following years.
Kester says that what excites him about the project is the environmental conservation aspect of it, as well as the potential it provides the community,
