A woman who was charged with arson following a fire in Bayfield more than two years ago was found not guilty earlier this month.
The fire at Sarah Keys’ family home on Whys Line outside of Bayfield on January 7th 2021 prompted charges of arson for fraudulent purposes, and disregard for human life. Keys maintained her innocence throughout the charges and trial.
The eight day trial took place in Goderich, and The Huron County Crown’s office stated that Keys obtained tenants insurance on the property only three days before the incident. However, Judge M.A. Garson stated that the crown did not present sufficient evidence for a guilty verdict.
